El autor usa el método biográfico y se introduce en la vida cotidiana de familias formadas por chinos y mestizas de origen andino o criollo africano. Presta especial atención a los estereotipos y los giros del lenguaje que guiaron la vinculación de chinos y peruanos en atmósferas dominadas por el recelo etnocéntrico, por un lado, y la fraternidad del mundo popular, por el otro.

A summary of the resource.
Da a conocer al chino emigrante desde el puerto donde se embarcó a Perú hasta que pasado siglo y medio algunos de ellos logran formar un árbol genealógico. Por lo tanto, se da a conocer Macao y sus creencias, costumbres y cultura de los chinos que ahí residían. Se tiene en cuenta cómo fue el tráfico de gente "trata amarilla", sus actores y el ambiente de traslado de cargazones de culíes, así como las vicisitudes durante la travesía. Luego de miles de culíes finalizaron sus años de contrata casi todos los sobrevivientes permanecieron en Perú, por ello se aborda sus oficios, actividades económicas y comerciales y estrategias de organización y defensa. Destaca la influencia de la comida cantonesa entre los peruanos. Se presenta detalles sobre la vida política de los chinos del valle del Jequetepeque y el proceso de peruanización de los chinos en Zaña. Dedica un capítulo especial a los chinos que se asentaron en el distrito limeño del Rímac.

Analiza nueve relatos de vida de adultas mayores mujeres, inmigrantes chinas o descendientes directas de inmigrantes chinos, que viven o han vivido en la ciudad de Puntarenas, Costa Rica, en el siglo XX, con el fin de conocer la inmigración china desde la perspectiva femenina y los mecanismos que utilizaron para afrontar el cambio cultural. Se utiliza la técnica de relatos de vida propuesta por Bertaux (2005). Los resultados muestran que estas mujeres, inmigrantes o descendientes, eran fuertes, trabajadoras, fieles, respetuosas y sobre todo, amantes de sus familias, que lograron lidiar con una cultura diferente, adaptarse al nuevo entorno, construir una familia e insertarse pacíficamente en la comunidad de Puntarenas.

Esta investigación, la cual forma parte de un esfuerzo interinstitucional por recuperar la memoria histórica de los chinos de Costa Rica, se realizó a partir de evidencia documental, artefactos conservados en la Asociación China puntarenense, fuentes primarias sobre la inmigración china y testimonios escritos y orales de descendientes de inmigrantes chinos que vivieron en Puntarenas durante las últimas décadas del siglo XIX o la primera mitad del siglo XX. El cruce de muchos de los datos encontrados permitió ahondar en aspectos que ya se conocían como el alto grado de organización social del grupo y su aporte excepcional al desarrollo social
y económico de la ciudad de Puntarenas.

Este estudio está enfocado en las organizaciones de inmigrantes chinos en Argentina por tipo de organización, por grupo migratorio, por tipo de actividades desarrolladas (culturales, religiosas, deportivas, económicas...), por vínculos con China, entre otros aspectos. La migración desde Taiwán se intensificó en los años setenta y ochenta, mientras que la proveniente de China continental se acrecentó en las décadas posteriores. Al 2016 prevalece una fuerte tendencia de inserción económica y laboral de los inmigrantes en un nicho específico: los supermercados. Esta actividad ha planteado una dispersión territorial de los migrantes que tienden a residir cerca de su zona de trabajo. La inmigración china en Argentina presenta varias peculiaridades. Es una inmigración más nueva que en Estados Unidos, en la cual hay un peso relativo muy relevante de Taiwán, mucho más pequeña en términos demográficos, más dispersa en la ciudad, muy distante de su país de origen en términos geográficos y en un contexto económico con menor capacidad de ahorro en dólares. Todos estos factores plantean una cierta limitación del desarrollo del transnacionalismo. Sin embargo, hay indicios claros de un transnacionalismo incipiente.

Revisa la producción académica sobre la inmigración china a Cuba y al Perú. Su pregunta principal es porqué han producido resultados tan diferentes. Halla su explicación en el terreno de la política, pues el origen social y los vínculos transnacionales fueron muy semejantes. Los chinos de Cuba participaron en la lucha por la independencia y fueron rápidamente asimilados como parte de las fuerzas que terminaron con el colonialismo español. Sin embargo, décadas después, la revolución cubana expropió los pequeños negocios y los chino cubanos iniciaron un éxodo que los llevó a migrar masivamente a los EEUU. Por su lado, los colonos chinos del Perú se rebelaron contra el régimen de plantación en el contexto de la Guerra del Pacífico que opuso a Chile contra la alianza del Perú y Bolivia. Por ello, una parte de los culíes actuó en favor del ejército de Chile y la comunidad sufrió mucho para ser aceptada como parte de las fuerzas constitutivas de la nación peruana. Sin embargo, progresivamente los chino peruanos lograron una asimilación exitosa, a partir de su contribución a la economía de servicios incluyendo su innovación gastronómica que cautivó el paladar de los peruanos. De este modo, se produjo una situación paradójica, la comunidad chino cubano que se integró rápidamente y en forma exitosa acabó dejando Cuba, mientras que los chinos peruanos que sufrieron mucho para ser aceptados han terminado siendo una de las migraciones internacionales mejor aceptadas y en constante renovación hasta el día de hoy. Asimismo, este artículo revisa la historia actual de las relaciones de China con ambos países, observando cómo el nuevo puesto de China como segunda potencia mundial ha acabado definiendo la vida social y económica de los chinos latinoamericanos.
