Este catálogo documenta la exposición fotográfica «Encrucijadas del Sur Global: barrios chinos y espacios populares en América Latina. Santiago de Chile, La Habana, Lima» en la Universidad Central de Lima. La exposición curada por Carola Pulgar surge del trabajo en terreno de antropólogos y artistas visuales en los barrios chinos de Santiago de Chile, La Habana y Lima. Espacios urbanos que representan tres modelos diferentes del habitar chino en América Latina: Santiago de Chile simboliza los flujos transnacionales de capital y mercancías, el poder de los comerciantes populares chinos, el vertiginoso cambio urbano representados en las fotos de Carola Pulgas. Es el barrio chino más nuevo del continente, inaugurado en 2024. La Habana funciona como metáfora histórica, incluso folclorizada y turística de lo chino reflejada a través del lente de Reinel Rodríguez Sánchez-Ossorio. Remite a clanes familiares y estructuras sociales en retroceso o incluso inexistentes en la China actual. Lima expone un espacio híbrido donde la identidad chino-peruana (identidad tusán) se aprecia en la vida cotidiana, comunitaria y el comercio representadas en las fotografías de los tusanes Ricardo Choy-Kifox, fotógrafo tusán, Walter Hupiu Tapia, fotoperiodista, y de Julia Ziolek, artista visual alemana residente en Lima.
