A finales de julio pasado, los estudios Marvel anunciaron que entre sus próximos proyectos para la venidera Fase 4 se encontraba el film Shang-Chi y la leyenda de los Diez Anillos, confirmando así los rumores que tras más de diez años de películas por fin estrenarían una cinta protagonizada por el máximo héroe de acción asiático en el Universo Cinematográfico de Marvel (MCU): Shang-Chi. Para los seguidores del MCU, lo importante de la noticia giró en torno a uno de los villanos más conocidos en las historietas, el Mandarín, quien fue nombrado por primera vez en la saga de películas de Iron Man. Con esta película se busca conquistar el cada vez más importante mercado chino con un reparto mayormente asiático, a la vez que busca cambiar ciertos estereotipos sobre los asiáticos y resarcir el desacierto ocasionado con la serie Puño de Hierro (Iron Fist) de Netflix, cuyo reparto fue duramente criticado no solo por los fanáticos sino también por el público en general.

Describe y analiza, a partir de una historia de vida, las causas de la emigración de millones de trabajadores chinos en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX y a aborda cronológicamente las características de la inmigración a Cuba, Perú, Estados Unidos y México, en términos de contratación, transporte y condiciones de trabajo, ampliando en el caso mexicano el período bajo estudio hasta 1950, a fin de considerar los efectos de la “Gran Depresión” económica de 1929, la falta generalizada de empleos y la campaña “anti-chinos”. Particularmente se detallarán en los capítulos sobre Cuba y Perú las duras condiciones de contratación, transportación y trabajo, y sus consecuencias en motines, rebeliones y suicidios de chinos. Por otra parte, en los capítulos sobre Estados Unidos y México, se analizará el origen y efecto de las campañas en contra de la inmigración china.

Analiza los distintos tipos de organizaciones sociales creadas en China como antecedente de las que derivarían posteriormente en sociedades secretas. Identifica las que se produjeron en el proceso migratorio que se inició en China y llegó a México a través de Estados Unidos. Estudia las estructuras sociales y coyunturas históricas de cada país, para destacar en ellas las condiciones que hicieron posible el surgimiento y consolidación de las sociedades secretas chinas en Estados Unidos y México. Analiza en el cuarto la teoría y práctica de las sociedades secretas y en particular de la masonería china en México. Explica para el período comprendido entre 1850 y 1950, las situaciones que crearon en el imaginario la idea de la propensión de los chinos en particular, a formar parte de estas asociaciones.

Crazy Rich Asians es una película estrenada en el 2018 con un reparto integrado mayoritariamente por actrices y actores asiáticos, algo poco común en la industria cinematográfica de Hollywood. La autora enumera las críticas y aciertos que el público a nivel mundial asignaron a la película. Esta comedia romántica demuestra que las actrices y actores descendientes de Asia pueden calzar en roles alejados de los estereotipos y personajes de relleno. Mayor diversidad étnica y representación es posible.

A lo largo del siglo XX, la industria hollywoodense y la cultura dominante (mainstream) no solo ha perpetuado estereotipos ofensivos sobre la comunidad asiática en el cine, el teatro y la televisión, sino que también ha sido el principal promotor del whitewashing, una práctica centrada en blanquear las características de otros fenotipos no blancos en beneficio de una imagen más caucásica atractiva para la audiencia occidental.
El término whitewashing o blanqueo, se emplea en el ámbito cinematográfico y hace mención a la escogencia de un actor/actriz blanca para interpretar un personaje de origen étnico y características explícitamente no caucásicas. Durante las primeras décadas del desarrollo de Hollywood, fue una práctica común que se sumó a la ya cimentada tradición del blackface y la posterior yellowface, todo en aras de exagerar (e incluso mofarse) los estereotipos de distintos grupos raciales.

Los videos de esta subcolección son producidos exclusivamente por Tusanaje para generar integración y conocimiento entre las comunidades chinas de América Latina y España y otras partes del mundo. Tusanaje-秘从中来 presenta la segunda edición de encuentros con historiadores, antropólogos, economistas, literatos y otros académicos que investigan la cuestión china, con el objetivo de indagar en sus trabajos y aportes desde un enfoque más personal.
Este segundo “Encuentro con Tusanaje-秘从中来” del sábado 22 de agosto a las 7:00 p.m., se titula "Conociendo a los investigadores. Voces desde fuera: investigadores estudiando la diáspora en las Américas". Los invitados son los reconocidos especialistas Ignacio López Calvo, Yanet Jímenez, Ivonne Campos y Gonzalo Paroy. Se cuenta además con la moderación del prestigioso académico Marco Carrasco.
