Trata sobre la gradual incorporación de la comunidad china de Mozambique a la sociedad colonial. Cuando en 1975 llega la independencia del país, estos “buenos portugueses” comienzan a ser vistos, por los africanos nacionalistas como cómplices del colonialismo. Debido a las crecientes hostilidades deben abandonar Mozambique y “elegir” el camino de la diáspora. La gran mayoría de la comunidad chino-cantonesa de Mozambique se instaló en Brasil, sobre todo en la ciudad de Curitiba. A partir de una investigación de campo realizada entre las familias de la diáspora, este artículo analiza, también, la singularidad de sus trayectorias, así como las “narrativas de decepción” que giran en torno a su emigración de Mozambique.

El crecimiento de China durante el siglo XX es el impacto de las reformas económicas emprendidas por Deng Xiaoping desde 1978. Instaurando un “socialismo con características chinas”. Otra medida muy destacada en la actualidad es la gran inversión a las áreas STEM (ciencia, tecnología, ingeniería y matemáticas) por parte del gigante asiático. Lo que ha posibilitado ser una de las naciones con mayor cantidad de ingenieros y científicos capacitados para el desarrollo de diversas tecnologías. Fue este desarrollo científico y tecnológico una de las bases del país al hacer frente a la pandemia actual del COVID-19.
El FMI estima que Asia del Este será la única región del mundo que aún crecerá en el presente año, y aun la de mayor crecimiento en los años venideros. Un modelo perfecto de desarrollo no existe, y el modelo chino no es para nada algo cercano a esta utópica perfección.
Si bien, la prioridad para la humanidad (por ahora) está en el arduo reto de vencer a un inesperado enemigo invisible, una vez que esto se logre superar, podemos aprender y sacar lecciones muy valiosas de aquellas cosas que funcionan del otro lado del mundo. No por nada, el siglo de China (o quizás más precisamente el siglo de Asia) está ya próximo por comenzar.

El artículo analiza la primera obra de teatro escrita y publicada en Chile protagonizada por un inmigrante
chino: El Chino del autor peruano Ernesto Monge Wilhems (1878-1937), estrenada en 1925 y publicada en
1927 en la colección Lectura Selecta. Por medio de un análisis de la obra, proponemos que El Chino fue una
obra rupturista para su época. Aunque no exenta de racismo y estereotipos, Ernesto Monge Wilhems
construyó una imagen compleja del migrante chino que difería de la representación tradicional de las
personas chinas de la primera mitad del siglo XX.

La llegada de los inmigrantes chinos a México a partir de la década de 1870, fue promovida por empresarios y gobierno para hacer frente a la gran demanda de mano de obra, originada por las fuertes inversiones en la minería, ferrocarriles y la agricultura, sin embargo a partir del inicio de la Revolución mexicana, estos trabajadores fueron sistemáticamente atacados, sus propiedades confiscadas y casi en su totalidad deportados. Durante la llamada “campaña anti-chinos”, la logia masónica Chee Kung Tong 致公堂 les brindó protección y apoyo, funcionando con las mismas características de las ancestrales sociedades secretas en China.

La inserción económico-social de la comunidad china en Lima ocasionó reacciones violentas por parte, no solo de las élites, sino de todos los sectores populares, quienes, en coyunturas de crisis denotaron un temor ante su presencia. El presente trabajo pretende demostrar que el trasfondo de los actos violentos ocurridos durante el periodo 1903-1919 se explican en el sentimiento de miedo y temor de la «invasión amarilla», del ingreso de los chinos, como sujetos extraños. Su presencia significaría un atraso y una invasión hacia los puestos de trabajo, significaría la degradación racial y los vicios que pueden «infestar» Lima y sus habitantes. Los inicios del siglo XX y la inserción de los chinos coinciden con el aumento demográfico, el surgimiento del movimiento obrero, la tugurización, la peste, etc. El chino fue el chivo expiatorio hacia quien se refleja todos los temores hechos reales, a quien se culpa de las crisis, a quien, la comunidad limeña, colectivamente, espontánea, pero sistemáticamente, violentó y excluyó a estos inmigrantes, manifestaciones de sus temores internos y profundos. De esta manera, los problemas que motivan la investigación son 1.- ¿Cómo se manifiesta el miedo en los discursos contras los inmigrantes chinos? y 2.- ¿De qué manera la sinofobia degenera en violencia contra estos inmigrantes? Los objetivos trazados son: a) conocer el discurso antichino teniendo como variable principal la expresión del miedo, b) analizar y sistematizar las variantes de los miedos en torno al inmigrante chino, c) hallar la relación entre miedo, discurso y actitud violenta, y d) identificar las reacciones de la gente de Lima en las coyunturas de crisis (1903-1919). Con esta aproximación, se entiende que los discursos del siglo XIX, de tendencias políticas, legales, médicas, higienistas, jurídicas y económicas, devienen finalmente en el momento del crecimiento urbano y la modernización de Lima en actos violentos, manifestación del miedo, del peligro amarillo. Por tanto, en el presente trabajo evaluaremos los distintos discursos vertidos en el periodo mencionado, analizándolo bajo los términos de la historia del miedo.

Se plantea una nueva mirada a un viejo tema: la inmigración china al Perú, a partir del estudio de un grupo específico, los hakka, desde su proceso de migración en China –siglo III y IV- hasta su llegada el Perú, en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX. Se pone en relieve la presencia permanente y tácita de los hakka como grupo importante en China y el Perú a partir de sus distintas manifestaciones culturales de índole material o inmaterial. Se emplea el método etnográfico con observación directa y participante, desde un enfoque cualitativo con entrevistas a profundidad, grupos focales, historias de vida e historias de clanes, testimonios y narrativas durante el trabajo de campo realizado en China y el Perú. Cabe destacar el uso de fuentes chinas y la traducción de materiales e informaciones vinculantes. Se concluye que los hakka son un grupo diferenciado dentro de la etnia Han, con dinámicas particulares en el proceso de migración, lo cual pone en evidencia y confirma la diversidad que existe entre los grupos de inmigrantes chinos que llegaron al Perú desde 1849. En el marco de los 170 años de la inmigración china en el Perú, esta investigación intenta diseccionar el bloque cantonés para poner en relieve al grupo hakka y sus valiosos aportes.

Registro de afiliación en chino al Partido Nacionalista Kuomintang (Guomindang) en Perú del señor Liang Qiu de 39 años de edad, oriundo del pueblo de Doumenxiang, Zhong Shan (Chong Shan), Guangdong (Cantón). Vive en Ica y administra una bodega. Recibió educación básica. Su padre murió. Su madre vive y tiene dos hermanos. La razón que declaró para pertenecer al Kuomintang (KMT) fue salvar el país. Declara que puede asumir la función de propaganda de la revolución. Sus conocimientos sobre KMT son la meta de materialización de los tres Principios del Pueblo y la constitución de cinco poderes. Su conocimiento sobre la coyuntura china es que se debe acabar con los caudillos y abolir los tratados desiguales. La fecha de afiliación es el 7 de junio 1927. Su introductor para unirse a KMT es el señor Tan Leqian.
